A Bit of Backstory

Here's! The muthafuckin'!! Tea!

Hev, Ris, and I moved in together at the end of last August (2018). We all did not know each other prior and just signed up for random roommates after filling out the roommate matching survey (that is actually very hit or miss... and I guess they always miss, huh?) at our apartment which is a student apartment nearby UNT and TWU. We were all pretty shy at first, naturally, but eventually we started warming up to each other and using each other's stuff, which none of us minded as we made that very clear from the beginning. Ris and I noticed that Hev was very shy and quiet because she never came out of her room to socialize with us unless we asked her to or if she was doing something like laundry or cooking. She wouldn't even eat with us. She preferred to take either the food she cooked or the food we made to share amongst ourselves into her room to eat by herself. And in the few moments that we did catch her, she was not very conversational. Ris and I just assumed that she was extra shy, shier than we originally presumed, and that she needed more time to warm up to us, which was fine with us. But Ris and I were already becoming close both as friends and roommates since we had no one else to hang out with (lol).

Shortly after moving in, we decided to dedicate a day to do fall cleaning together. We chose to do this not only because we did not know who lived in this apartment before we did, nor did we know how well the apartment complex cleaned it, but we also wanted to be sure that everything was clean for each other. We began using each other's pots, pans, plastic containers, plates, cups, etc. so we just wanted to make sure that everything was at least sanitized. I organized a list of things that needed to be done and we divided them up between us. Ris ended up cleaning the living room by herself while Hev and I split the kitchen duties since there was so much to do. One of the jobs that Hev was supposed to do was wash ALL of the dishes, whether they were already clean or dirty, and then put them back in the cabinets after wiping down the cabinets inside and out. That was her major job. We all had one major job (mine was emptying out the fridge and freezer, wiping it down, throwing away old food, and reorganizing it; and Ris's major job was to clean the windows inside and out and dust the window screens.) and a few minor jobs as well.

This is when it all started. This is when we first started noticing how dirty she was.

We didn't want to be mean about it, but we already noticed how lack she was with the little things such as taking out her trash and cleaning up after herself when she cooked.

After Hev finished washing the dishes, she left the cups and plates, still wet, in the dish drainer. We were okay with this because they needed to be dried, although part of her job was to dry them by hand and put them away. But we weren't too upset about this. No big deal, right? However, we were not happy when we opened the cabinets and saw that she had hastily put all of the pots back in all willy-nilly and tossed, LITERALLY tossed the plastic containers and lids in on top of them. There was no organization; it looked as if she just threw them in there. Other than that, she seemed to do ok.

This was before it started to get cold.

If I could go back in time, there's one thing I would tell myself.

Cheers.

Xoxo,
Lex
